Astrology is an ancient practise that connects humans to the cosmos through looking at the relationship between the 10 major planets in the solar system and the individual or event. This is observed through a natal chart; a map of the exact position of all the eight planets and the Sun and the Moon at the moment of birth, formed by mathematical calculation that is exact astronomy. The natal chart shows the signs that the planets are in, their location and their distance from each other (the aspects).
‘The celestial bodies are the cause of all that takes place in the sublunar world’.
Thomas Aquinas
History of Astrology
Astrology is an ancient art that has been practised and studied for thousands of years. Astrology is not a belief of faith but is an art based on the observation and understanding of how planetary patterns manifest in our lives. From the beginning of time, our ancestors looked to the skies to understand the natural world more fully; the agricultural cycle and the behaviour of animals.
They saw how the moon affected the reproductive cycle of women and how the cycles of the sun and moon were reflected in the ebb and flow of the ocean. Astrology and Astronomy used to be one and the same thing; there was no division between the two.
Throughout the ages astrology has played an important role not just in the science world but religion, philosophy, medicine and the arts. Every royal court throughout history employed an astrologer, who would advise the king on his most important decisions.

Astrology Today
Gardeners use astrology. Many fishermen note the phases of the moon and notice that they catch more fish at the new moon and full moon, due to fish feeding en masse and therefore easier to catch at this time. Certain companies use astrology to decide whether the individual is suitable for the company, based on looking at their birth chart. Financial companies seek astrological advice to help with their investments.
‘Men should take their knowledge from the sun, the moon and the stars’.
Emerson
My Views on Astrology
I have a contemporary approach to astrology.
I think it’s important to take control of one’s life in order to create the life we wish, through taking responsibility for it. The easy route can be to wait for fate to guide us but this is not necessarily a fulfilling one. In the Middle Ages, the tradition of Astrology was concerned with the fated life that an individual’s stars mapped out. This was reflective of the limitations of choice, dependant on the class and occupation of the individual. These days we have more choice and freedom; the discovery of new planets and the evolution of astrology reflects this growth of consciousness. An astrological forecast is rather like a weather forecast; it can show the climate of the time, which may be stormy or sunny etc.
As an astrologer I aim to help my clients reach their greatest potential and make the right decisions based on a deeper understanding of themselves and their direction in life, through insight into their birth chart.
Sun sign astrology, the predictions you read in magazines and your personalised natal chart are all different. Sun sign astrology shows you the birth sign that you were born under, based on the location of the sun at your birth. It is very different to calculating your natal chart for the exact hour and minute of your birth, which will show you not only your sun sign but your moon sign and the other planets.
Science is unable to find an explanation for Astrology. It is more of a holistic science that can’t be tested by scientific means. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t work or exist.
